Brentford

A full back, Allen joined Division Three South side Brentford in 1922. He made his first team debut for the club in a 1–0 defeat to Reading on 25 November 1922. The appearance turned out to be his only first team outing during the 1922–23 season, but he managed two appearances in the following campaign, which came in defeats to Brighton & Hove Albion and Southend United in September and October 1923. Confined mostly to the reserve team, Allen failed to make any further appearances before departing at the end of the 1923–24 season.

Non-league football

After his release from Brentford, Allen dropped into non-league football and appeared for Southern League side Peterborough & Fletton United and Northamptonshire League clubs Wellingborough Town and Stamford.

Personal life

Allen served in the Grenadier Guards.
