Parshwanath Upadhye is an Indian classical dancer. renowned for his striking combination of Tandava the male energy with gentle Lasya or the graceful movements performed without compromising the ancient Indian aesthetic values.

Parshwanath, 'Natya Mayura'award winner,a versatile Indian classical dancer has carved out a niche for himself as one of the most sought-after male dancers in India. Winner of eight national awards, an empanelled artist of the ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural Relations) and an 'A grade' artist of the Bangalore Doordarshan Kendra, Parshwanath's prowess in the field of dance is extensive. Parshwanath completed his Arangetram, Vidwath and Alankaar Exams under the able guidance and tutelage of Guru Shri Ravindra Sharma in the traditional Mysore style of Bharathanatyam . He continues his learning and exploring of the art form under internationally acclaimed dancer duo, Shri Kiran Subramanyam and Smt.Sandhya Kiran alongside working with many reputed dance companies in India and abroad. He has a black belt in karate, is a state level swimmer as well as a trained Carnatic vocalist and holds a Master of Arts degree in Kannada Literature from Karnataka University.

Currently, along with his wife Shruti, Parshwanath choreographs, directs, produces and presents his work at national and international venues under the banner of Upadhye School of Dance and Punyah Dance company, Bangalore, India.

The making of a performer

After undergoing 15 years of rigorous training and practice in the traditional Mysore style of Bharathanatyam under the able guidance and tutelage of Guru Shri Ravindra Sharma of Belgaum, Parshwanath completed his Arangetram in the year 1996 and continued his sadhana with the Guru at Ravind Natya Niketan, Belgaum till the year 2002. He completed his Visharad in Bharatnatyam from Gandharva University, Mumbai in 1993-94 followed by Alankaara in Bharatnatyam from the same University in the year 2000-2003. Parshwanath came out in flying colours in the Vidwath Examination in Bharatnatyam conducted by Karnataka Secondary Education Board, Bangalore. Parshwanath Upadhye continues his learning and exploring of the art form under internationally acclaimed dancer duo, Shri Kiran Subramanyam and Smt.Sandhya Kiran since 2002 at ‘Rasika Academy of performing Arts,’ Bangalore. He participated in the ‘Karanas’ Workshop conducted by the eminent dancer Guru Dr.Padma Subramanyam in 1996 at Mangalore. He also had the opportunity to explore Folk music and Dance in the festivals conducted by Bailhongal Janapada Sangha, Karnataka in 1994 -96.

Apart from numerous festivals and stages in India and abroad over the years, following are the recent major performances given by Parshwanath Upadhye :
1. Toured China as part of India-China Youth Exchange Program 2011
2. Collaborated with international dance companies like Rangoli Dance company, LA, U SA, Shobhana Jeysingh Dance Company, UK, Sutra Dance Company, Malaysia, as well as Abhinava Dance Company, India, Radhakalpa Dance Company, India
3. Rendered solo performances in theme festivals like “Purush”, Chennai, “Nartaka”, Malaysia, “Alva's Vishwa Nudisiri”, Moodubidri, “Nartaka”, Chennai
4. Produced a DVD titled “Shambho” for the conossiuers as well as aspiring performers of Indian Classical Dance and Music
5. Played the lead role in dance based short film directed by New York-based director Kunal Amrish

Parshwanath Upadhye honed his own skills as an artist by taking up teaching the art form since 1996 when he established the Sharada Sangeetha Nrithya Academy, Belgaum, of which he was the Director also till the year 2000.He has established the Upadhye School of Dance in Bangalore in the year 2010 of which he is the Director, Chief Choreographer and Performer .
