Pari Bewa, was a female freedom fighter from Odisha, India. Born in Eram, Bewa had a very important role in quit India movement. She is regarded as the only lady martyr of Odisha.

Personal life

Bewa was born in undivided Balasore or Eram which is now situated in Bhadrak. Pari Bewa had no formal education in her life but had a personal attachment to their land, which led her to participate in Indian independence movement.

Eram Massacre

On 28 September 1942 there was a huge gathering at Eram to protest against British Raj and to prepare a course plan of action to fight against British. While the crowd was performing the agitation against the British rulers in a peaceful way, 304 shots were discharged against the crowd. Within some minutes 28 persons were dead on the spot and 56 were injured. Pari Bewa was one among the practitioner who died during the massacre.
