Nothokemas is an extinct genus of terrestrial herbivore the family Camelidae, endemic to North America from the Oligocene through Miocene 30.8— 20.430 mya, existing for approximately 10.757 million years.

Taxonomy

Nothokemas was named by White (1940) [also said to be 1947]. It was assigned to Camelidae by White (1940) and Honey et al.

Morphology

Four specimens were examined for estimated body mass by M. Mendoza, C. M. Janis, and P. Palmqvist. These specimens were estimated to weigh:

  • 73.8 kg (160 lb)
  • 78.8 kg (170 lb)
  • 48.0 kg (110 lb)
  • 52.3 kg (120 lb)
  • Fossil distribution

    Fossil distribution is concentrated along the Gulf Coast from Texas to Florida in 11 different sites.
