My Pet Dinosaur is a 2017 Australian family film directed by Matt Drummond, and produced by Megan Williams. This is the second feature for Drummond who is renowned for his work as an Emmy Award winning, Visual Effects Supervisor.

Development

Matt Drummond began writing the script to My Pet Monster in early 2015 after the success of his debut feature, Dinosaur Island. The international rights were soon acquired at the American Film Market by Faisal Toor from Empress Road Pictures to head up its newly formed Selects Division. The film title was later changed to My Pet Dinosaur.

Rehearsals began December 2015. Principal photography commenced in January 6, 2016 in Australia, with Drummond directing. Live-action filming locations included Lithgow, Katoomba, Rydal and Portland, while CGI was done at Hive Studios International in Leura, New South Wales. On February 4, 2016, a news article confirmed that principal photography was well underway in and around the Lithgow area, specifically Roy Street and Ordinance Avenue before transferring to Portland. Principal photography was completed on February 15, 2016.

Music/Sound Design

The film is being scored by composer, Chris Wright. Wright composed the score for Drummond's debut feature, Dinosaur Island (2014).

Sound mix is being completed by Peter Purcell, known for his Academy Award winning work in George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
Visual Effects
All visual effects have been completed by Hive Studios International, with Matt Drummond acting as Visual Effects Supervisor.
Release
The theatrical trailer was released exclusively via Hollywood Reporter on January 13, 2017 to positive reviews, with commentary from Dread Central stating My Pet Dinosaur was, "...The best movie Spielberg never made..." and HR billing it as "E.T. meets Pixar."
Pinnacle Films have acquired the Australian and New Zealand distribution rights and the film is scheduled for wide release on April 22, 2017.
International dates are yet to be confirmed.
