The first matrics

The class of 1992 was the first matric class, but the class of 1993 was the first class completing the entire curriculum (Grade 8 to 12) at the school.

Interschools

The very first interschools followed in 1991 against neighbor school Eben Dönges. Currently the school shares the field with Vredenburg High School and alternates locations annually.

Culture

The school boasts with an excellent array of cultural activities for learners to partake and excel in. In 2009 under the facilitation of Mrs Moira Willemse, the Culture Club started at the school allowing learners to develop skills in public speaking, poetry and prose and creative writing. The members of the culture club regularly achieved high accolades at the Tygerberg International Eisteddfod held annually. Notably the members achieve top honours as best performers at the eisteddfod who have attained two Best Poetry awards and were invited twice to perform at the prestigious gala evening.

The music department at the school had a huge face lift with the appointment of Mr Eric Gerber as the head of the Music Department, 2010–2012. Annually the music department would excel in the Tygerberg International Eisteddfod with learners participating in various categories such as solo singing (classical and contemporary), duet singing, musical theatre, vocal ensemble, instrumental ensemble and choir. Including various music learners singing in highly acclaimed choirs such as the Cape Town Youth Choir (formerly Pro Cantu), South African Youth Choir and later joining the Stellenbosch University Choir. In 2015 the choir gained new leadership and under the direction of Ms Christine Bam and accompanist Mrs Christelle Marais, the choir has been invited to perform in the UK in 2017 and will also compete in the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales.

In 2010, the school introduced Dance studies as a subject for learners in grades 10–12. Under the direction of Mrs Debbie Butler, the dance department has excelled in such a way that annually students are invited to perform at the Tygerberg International Eisteddfod and various other corporate functions. Most notably, the school produced 3 learners—Chaney Gabriells, Lee Kotze and Bongi Mhlom—who have been given bursaries to study dance at the prestigious University of Cape Town Dance School.

Annually the music department, drama department, dance department and culture club would present spectacular culture evenings and musicals, which have become a thriving tradition at Monument Park High School.

Leadership

Monument Park High School has produced excellent leaders from the learner body who have gone on to play key figures in their community, tertiary communuties as well as on provincial and national level. The term Running With the Horses was coined by the principal Mr D. C. Jantjies (2008–2016) and became the slogan for leading the school to higher levels and never giving up.

The school has various leadership structures such as Class Leaders, Representative Student Council, Terrein Prefects and the Matric Council. The Matric council consists of Senior Matric Students who lead the school under the leadership of the Head Boy and Head Girl. The title of Head Girl and Head Boy is the most prestigious accreditation for any learner at the school and allows learners to interact with the teaching staff and school governing body to act as representatives for the entire learner community. The first Head Boy and Head Girl took office in 1992.
