Monisha En Monalisa (English: Monisha is my Monalisa) is a Tamil film released in 1999 written, directed and produced by T. Rajendar who also composed the music and portrays a supporting role. His son, Silambarasan starred in a cameo role in the film, whilst debutants, Ramankanth and Mumtaj played the lead roles. The film received primarily poor reviews upon release, with one reviewer labelling it the "low point of Tamil cinema." The film was also made in Hindi as Yehi To Pyaar Hai which remains unreleased even though soundtrack was released.

Plot

Rahul (Ramankanth) sees a concert of pop singer Monisha (Mumtaj) and falls in love. He woos her over the phone but she, hating all men and love itself, resists his advances. But he wears her down and she finally succumbs, agreeing to see him. But he dies in an accident on the way over and she ends up not being able to even see his face.

Production

The song Tholaipesi Enna was shot at a grand budget of 10 million rupees but the film had troubles when a flood that hit Chennai washed away a set erected on the banks of the Cooum. During the production of the film, the film was renamed from Monisha to Monisha En Monalisa due to astrological reasons.
Soundtrack
Soundtrack was written and composed by T. Rajender. The title song of the film is based on "Maria" by Ricky Martin.
