History

Andy Davies established ‘Minilikes Motorsport' in 1992 operating from a small workshop in Gravesend, offering repairs and servicing for owners of the classic Mini. From 1993 Andy began to build cars to customer's specifications, but soon found he needed bigger premises so in 1998 MLM moved to their old location in Knockholt near Sevenoaks, In 1999 at the behest of BMW Andy changed the company name to M.L.Motorsport.

Over the years they have worked to make cars that are a little different from the rest incorporating original ideas to add that finishing touch, from paintwork to tailoring the engine specification to suit the owner. This is also reflected in the parts they use such as MB Racing wheels and carbon fibre interior and exterior parts. With numerous show trophies including being awarded MiniWorld Magazines 'Car of the Show' trophy at the London to Brighton Mini run in 2004.

In 1994 ML teamed up with A.C. Dodd an BMC A-Series engine expert. The Dodd factor can be applied to any engine as anyone can book an ‘optimised' tuning session for their Mini. AC now regularly writes for Miniworld magazine he can also be questioned on the MLMotorpsort Facebook page about all aspects of A-series engine preparation and specifications.

Over the years they have taken part and prepared customer cars/engines for all sorts of club motorsport, from the quarter mile at Santa Pod Raceway, sprints and hill climbs to track days all with very respectable results! Particularly with Sprints they have had class wins in 1999, 2001, 2003. with the wins shared between their own MLM sprint Mini and Minis prepared for customers. MLM have also prepared 'A' series engines for stage rallying, achieving respectable stage times against the establishment and have also prepared 'retro' cars for road and motorsport and include, Lancia Delta Integrale, Jaguar XJ6 and Fiat Strada Abarth, Renault 5 GT turbo. For 2007 they will again be out on the track with their latest projects, a track day Mini Minus and another Fiat Strada Abarth being prepared for a variety of road and track activities.

They have found that the benefit of competing allows them to evaluate performance of parts and engines and allows them to pass on this knowledge to customers when they are planning a car or engine build. With this in mind their forum, accessed via ML Motorsport.com, is constructed to give a wealth of information from engine building to the latest news on projects past and present, giving the opportunity to find out more and ask questions relevant to your own project.

In 2007 MLM will start a new chapter by moving into a new workshop, in Higham Kent, where the aim is to concentrate more on their specialities such as engine building and tuning although all their other services will be offered with the exception of paintwork which will be done by an outside contractor that we will recommend.
