Early life and education
Weisel was born in Bergen-Belsen, Germany. Her parents were survivors of the Auschwitz concentration camp.
Weisel began to paint when she was 14 years old. She attended California State University from 1965 to 1974 and the Otis Art Institute in 1971. She obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at George Washington University in 1977 and performed post graduate studies at American University.
Career
Weisel has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in both Germany and the U.S. including a 2013 show at the Kreeger Museum in Washington DC. Her work is permanently displayed at several American museums including the Smithsonian Institute's National Museum of American Art, Baltimore Museum of Art and the Hirshhorn Museum. Her work can also be seen at the United States Embassy in Berlin, Germany and the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. She is the author of several books including Touching Quiet: Reflections in Solitude. Weisel is the editor of the Holocaust survivor book, Daughters of Absence.
Personal life
Weisel is married and has three daughters. She practices Transcendental Meditation.
