Career

The former Massachusetts native and a 1981 graduate of Lyndon State College in Lyndonville, Vermont, Cejka holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology. Before joining News 4, the CBS affiliate in Buffalo, New York, he was employed by WABI-TV (CBS), WABI and WBGW-FM, all in Bangor, Maine. He has appeared on all newscasts aired on WIVB at various times, having most recently returned to the weekend evening shift after several years hosting mornings. Cejka was also temporarily assigned to the station's 5:00 PM newscast for several months at the time of its inception. In addition to forecasting weather for News 4, he also provides weather forecast services to several radio stations in the Western New York area including WKSE KISS 98.5 Buffalo, WKZA 106.9 KISS FM, WESB Newsradio 1490, Bradford, PA and WBRR 100.1 The Hero.

He has been instrumental in coordinating a network of 100+ Automated Weather Source/WeatherBug remote monitoring weather stations, within the Buffalo TV market, which report instantaneous weather data to WIVB and to the public via the Internet.

Trivia

Cejka had an elaborate weather-gathering center in his home when he was in high school the focus of which was a teletype that was used to print coded packet radio data broadcast over HAM radio frequencies. He participated in numerous science fairs including those held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts. During his college years, he produced one of the few, local origination public service radio programs which aired on WWLR-FM, in Lyndonville, Vermont called, "Northern New England Perspectives" which had an almost three year run from 1979-1981.

Awards

Cejka is a full member of the American Meteorological Society, headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, has served as Vice President of the Western New York chapter of the AMS and obtained the AMS TV Seal of Approval in 1985. He has been honored with several community service awards which include recognition of his contributions to Amherst Museum in Amherst, New York, where he established many heirloom gardens corresponding to the museum's collection of 19th-century buildings. He has made numerous public appearances, participating in career fairs, school science fairs and various community events.

The "Wake Up Show," on which Cejka appears, won a New York State Emmy in the category of "Best Morning Newscast". The show submitted ("Wild Windstorm") for judging was from January 30, 2008, a date that had significant weather coverage due to a severe wind event during which much damage occurred in the Buffalo area. The Emmies awarded on March 29, 2009 were individually received by the anchors involved, including Cejka.
