Metarhinus is a genus of brontothere endemic to North America during the Eocene living from 46.2—42 mya, existing for approximately 4.2 million years.

Taxonomy

Metarhinus was named by Osborn (1908). It is not extant. Its type is Metarhinus fluviatilis. It was assigned to Brontotheriidae by Osborn (1908) and Carroll (1988); and to Dolichorhininae by Mader (1998).

Morphology

A single specimen was examined by M. Mendoza for body mass and was estimated to have a weight of 210.6 kg (460 lb).
