2000–2002

Melvin Brown began his career in media after graduating from Duke University and moving to Orlando, Florida to work as an assistant to his first cousin and power music manager Johnny Wright. It was there he "learned the ropes" of the industry by working on projects for international superstars like the Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, Boys II Men, Britney Spears, and more. In 2002, while working for Wright, Brown discovered the then unknown recording artist Akon and began working relentlessly to gain exposure for the new artist. Under Brown's guidance Akon became one of the best selling artists on the charts and one of the most sought after artist internationally to date.

2003–2009

In 2003, Akon and Brown founded Konvict Muzik, a record label formed with the idea of creating and launching international icons. Since Konvict Muzik began operations they have been responsible for launching the careers of the successful international acts like T-Pain, and Lady Gaga.

2011–2015

In 2011, Brown consulted his team of highly skilled professionals from different industries including music, television, film, radio, and print and jointly decided that in order to achieve the very lofty goals of forming a media company that would control and operate a wide variety of media based projects. The result was the incorporation of the Melvin Brown Media Group|MBMG. As co-founder of Konvict Muzik, Brown plays an instrumental role in the development of international recording superstar Lady Gaga! So Star Entertainment, a UK based publishing/management company, and World Music Icon; a singing competition show being developed and aired in 10 Asian countries. In the near future MBMG is intent on expanding its reach into producing studio backed films as well as including more digital and multimedia projects in music, web, and television. In 2012, Brown appointed D Teck as A&R Director for Konvict Muzik which led to the discovery of Common Kings which proved paramount in a move that subsequently resulted in a deal which led to Common Kings signing with Sony Music.

Present

Currently, Brown operates S&B Creative with partner Edward Andrew Charles Swinburne.
