As of 2001 India census, Melpattampakkam (Melpattambakkam) had a population of 6,593. Males constitute 46 percent of the population and females 54 percent. Also, pattam pakkam is famous for its sculptural works. River south Pennai is flowing through the outskirts which adds more vegetation to the area. All festivals like deepavali, ramazan, Christmas etc are celebrated peacefully by supporting all communities.
