Mauritians (singular Mauritian; French: Mauricien) are nationals or natives of the Republic of Mauritius and their descendants.

Ethnic

Mauritius is a multiethnic society. The ancestors of the Mauritian population are mainly of Indian, African, Malagasy, European, mixed-race and Chinese origin.

Mauritian diaspora

The Mauritian diaspora consists of Mauritian emigrants and their descendants in various countries around the world, mainly Great Britain (United Kingdom), Australia, New Zealand, Canada, France and Ireland.

There's roughly 200,000 Mauritians residing outside of Mauritius, of which 60% (120,000) are Christians, 25% Hindu/Tamils (50,000) and 15% Muslim (30,000). Racial composition in the diaspora, 45% are Indians, 25.5% coloured-creoles (mixed-race), 13% Chinese 8.5% white and 8% black or Afro-creoles. Whites/Coloureds Mauritians are the biggest percentage in Australia and South Africa, Chinese in Canada, while slight majority for Indo-Mauritians in the U.K.

While the total Mauritian population worldwide including Mauritius is 1.5million. Racially as a whole it's: 67.2% Indian, 20.1% black, 6% coloured, 3.4% Chinese, 3.3% white.

While in Mauritius: 67.5% Indian, 22.5% black, 3% coloured, 2% Chinese and 2% white.

Therefore: over 50% of coloureds, 40% whites, 42% Chinese have left Mauritius.
