Matty Woods is an Australian Roots reggae artist producer based in Wollongong, Australia. In December 2009, Matty released The Ras Gong Guerrilla EP.

Biography

Matty's debut release The Ras Gong Guerrilla EP was recorded in Wollongong and released in December 2009. The 10-track recording tackles Australian and international issues such as Indigenous sovereignty, climate change and human rights. The recording features performances by members of The Strides band, Nick Garbett and Jeremy Rose. The CD was recorded by dual ARIA award winner Al Wright and mastered by Reece Turnbridge at Benchmark Mastering.

In December 2009, Matty released the EPK, or Electronic Press Kit, a film which provides a brief introspective on Matty Woods and The Ras Gong Guerrilla EP. Studio, live performance, interview, behind the scenes and archival footage are all found in the kit. Live performance footage featured includes venues such as the Hopetoun Surry Hills, High and Dry sustainable arts festival, Wollongong Uni Bar and the Forum in Fox Studios Moore Park Sydney. The DVD features the film clip for ‘Down in Australia’ which includes footage of a mural of Bob Marley in Kogarah, Australia.

Matty has supported local and international acts since 2007 including The Black Seeds, King Tide, Rastawookie, The Red Eyes, Cornerstone Roots One Love Band and Dubbly. He has played for a number of bands including Ras Gong Guerrillas, One Love Band, Five Islands Reggae Band, Bomba, Watussi, Bondi Cigars, Rastawookie and King Tide.

Matty Woods regularly performs at activist events in Australia, such as Climate Camp, Australia's Climate Action Summit, VeganExpo, Cruelty Free Living Festival and the Walk Against Warming.

Woods performed at the Byron Bay Reggae Festival 2010.
