Matahora Airport (Indonesian: Bandar Udara Matahora) (IATA: WKB, ICAO: WNI), is an airport located in Wangi-wangi Island, Wakatobi, South East Sulawesi, Indonesia. The airport serves as the point of entry to the Wakatobi National Park, a major international tourist destination which is located nearby.

Contents

The airport construction began on 2007 with an investment of 100 billions Rupiah from South East Sulawesi provincial government. The airport was inaugurated on 22 May 2009 by then-Indonesian Minister of Transportation Jusman Syafii Djamal.

Wings Air (a subsidiary of Lion Air) is currently the only airline with a once daily flight to Matahora Airport using the ATR 72-500.

Expansion

A new terminal was inaugurated on 8 May 2016 by former Minister of Transportation Ignasius Jonan. The new terminal has an area of 1.524 m2 and can accommodate to 150 people daily. New facilities include more spacious boarding lounge, more modern check-in counter, arranged concession area and a more hygienic toilet. Other land facilities include a building for the Rescue & Fire Fighting Services, a non-directional beacon, a quarantine building and a wider parking area for vehicles. On the air-side, the airport apron is now widened to 103 m x 73 m to cater larger aircraft. A taxi way of area 107 m x 18 m is also constructed. Security-related facility is also improved, such as additional security screening facilities (x-ray baggage), and the construction of security posts in the area of the airport. Further improvements might include the widening of the airport runway to cater an even larger aircraft.
