Mary regan assesses the mood at the fine gael ard fheis


Mary Regan was born in Moycullen, County Galway. She is an award-winning journalist, currently political editor with UTV Ireland. She formerly held that role at the Irish Examiner and was a regular panelist on Tonight With Vincent Browne. She began her career as a reporter in the RTÉ newsroom and first started covering politics as a weekly columnist for Village magazine, edited by Vincent Browne.

She joined the Irish Examiner in 2006 and was awarded "Young Journalist of the Year", followed by "National Journalist of the Year", in the GSK Medical Media Awards. She joined the newspaper’s political team in 2008 and has been breaking agenda-setting news stories since, while also contributing analysis to national radio and television shows. As well as covering domestic politics, she has reported from Uganda, Ethiopia, the Middle East, Europe and the US, including from the White House.

In 2011, she was invited to Washington D. C. by the US State Department to take part in the highly prestigious International Visitor Leadership Programme for emerging young leaders. She was also awarded an Edward R. Murrow professional scholarship for journalists.

Personal

Regan graduated with a degree in Journalism from Dublin City University before completing a Masters in European Politics in University College Dublin.

She married the RTÉ news presenter Paul O'Flynn in 2012. She is the sister of Irish film actress and model Emma Eliza Regan.
