History
Founded in 1837 as a trading company, Maduro began operating schooners between local Caribbean ports. By World War II, owing to its location near the Maracaibo Basin, Willemstad became a primary port for tankers transporting aviation fuel to the Allies in Northern Africa and Great Britain. In 1917, Maduro and local financier Joseph Alvarez-Correa founded Maduro's Bank, the predecessor to Maduro & Curiel's Bank.
Present day
The Maduro Group operates as a shipping agency, logistical provider, travel agency, real estate owner and transportation provider. Launched in 2006, Insel Air serves as the national airline of Curaçao.
