Demographics

Inhabitants of Lignol are called in French Lignolais. There is a church in this town that was built during the 14th century. During the presidential 2007 elections, inhabitants voted for Nicolas Sarkozy. Agriculture is the main source of resources of the town. Its current mayor is a former farmworker.

Lignol also has two castles, they were the homes of the dukes that used to rule the place and were under the domination of the House of Rohan. Lignol was the main place of the French resistance against the German occupation in the Guémené-sur-Scorff area. Since the Nazis occupied Guémené-sur-Scorff, the Resistance used the nearby towns as bases. Langoëlan and Lignol were their main ones in the region.

Lignol has a soccer club in association with the neighbouring town of Kernaskleden.

Famous people

Jean Le Floc'h, a deputy during the French Revolution, was murdered by the counter-revolutionaries.

Johan You, soccer player and lawyer, the former "Ace" of Breton soccer, played for the local club. Son of a Eurasian marriage, he is known in the town as "L'enfant Chéri du pays" (the beloved child of the nation).

Tourism

The wind mills and the Castle. The local soccer club is also known for its great performances. The club just got promoted in division 1. The equivalent for Ligue 8. They have a major beef with the club of Guémené sur Scorff, the rivalry between the two "Pays Pourrhiet" giants is reaching its climax this season; Johan You was often said to try to appease the climate of tension; he said he played for both teams and that he sought nothing but the glorification of the two Breton sides. Nevertheless, and despite the mediation of the Lignol Galactico we can be doubtful that his wishes will happen on the pitch. "I played all my childhood and until I was 20 in Guémené, I learnt everything there." he said.
