Life
Born in Bagnacavallo, Longanesi founded the eponymous publishing house in Milan in 1946. Between 1927 and 1950, he published several magazines including L'Italiano (1927), a political and literary fortnightly tied to Strapaese movement; Omnibus (1937), a weekly rotogravure newspaper; and Il Borghese (1950), a cultural and satirical weekly, conservative-oriented.
Longanesi was also an elegant and refined cartoonist and wrote several books of memoirs, characterised by a ruthless streak and Fascist nostalgic accents (In piedi e seduti, Una vita, Ci salveranno le vecchie zie?).
