The L&YR Class 2 (Aspinall) was a class of 4-4-0 steam locomotives of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway. It was a development of the Barton Wright Class 2 with larger cylinders and Joy valve gear and was introduced in 1888. Thirty locomotives were built and 29 passed to the London, Midland and Scottish Railway at the grouping in 1923.

Rebuilds
Numbers 982, 999 and 1003 were rebuilt by George Hughes between 1910 and 1915 with Belpaire firebox and extended smokebox. Figures for the rebuilds are marked (R) in the information box.
Numbering
Number 987 was scrapped in 1901 after a collision.
Withdrawal
Withdrawals began in 1930 and the last locomotive was withdrawn and scrapped in 1935. None have been preserved.
