Ladies of the Canyon is a Canadian band from Montreal, Quebec composed of Tara Martin, Maia Davies, Jasmine Bleile and Anna Ruddick. Their sound encompasses a melding of influences, such as roots, rock, country, and Americana.

Contents

On June 1, 2010, the group released their debut album, Haunted Woman, on Kindling/Warner Music Canada. They have recently completed work on their second album, Diamond Heart, with a release date of September 24, 2013.

History

Founded in 2005 by Senja Sargeant, Maia Davies, Jasmine Bleile and Anna Ruddick, Ladies of the Canyon began their career playing small venues in Montreal’s popular Mile-End neighborhood. Inspired by a “countrified” 1970s Californian soft-rock sound, the group released their first studio album, Haunted Woman, in 2010.

In the three years following this release, Ladies of the Canyon have appeared on stage with such notable acts as Broken Social Scene and The Dears, were nominated for a Canadian Country Music Association award, and have teamed up with producer Mark Howard (The Tragically Hip, Lucinda Williams, Vic Chestnutt) for their upcoming record. In 2012, while working on their second album, Senja Sargeant was replaced by drummer Tara Martin - the resulting songbook, Diamond Heart, is a tapestry of raw feelings, painful recollections and blind faith in love.

Solo careers

Maia Davies has launched a solo career by releasing her debut French language album, Héritage, using her mononym Maia (stylized as Maïa).
