Kothanalloor (Malayalam: കോതനല്ലൂര്‍) is a village located in the Kottayam District of Kerala, India. It is situated on the Kottayam-Ernakulam (Cochin) highway, 17.5 kilometers from Kottayam and 49.1 kilometers from Ernakulam. The nearest railway station is at Kuruppanthara, which is 3.9 kilometers away.

History

Kothanalloor is mentioned in Unnineeli sandhesham (14th century AD) and annals of Udhayamperur synd (AD 1599). The Kothanalloor Sasanam by Iravi Keralavarma is believed to deal with Kothanalloor.

Famous Personalities

Ramayana Ratnam Palakkaattu Gopalan Nair (late) was a famous Holi Epic Ramayanam Reader. He finished nearly 3000 ramayanam parayanam in different temples and received "ramayana ratnam" award. Late Rev. Fr. Kuriakose Mylapparambil established the vegetable market and schools besides reconstructing the current church building. His contribution to the spiritual renaissance of the locality is widely known. Prof. Dr. K. S. Mathew an eminant historian and Indo-Portuguese expert hails from, Nambiyakulam of Kothanalloor.
