Contents

Three athletes from Kiribati were selected to the team to compete only in athletics and weightlifting. Kiribati also planned to send two athletes to compete in boxing, but the nation failed to qualify. Weightlifter David Katoatau, the oldest member of the contingent, reprised his role to be Kiribati's flag bearer at the opening ceremony. Kiribati, however, has yet to win its first ever Olympic medal.
