Kenny Glasgow is a Canadian DJ and producer from Toronto. After starting his career in the 1990s as a club DJ and party organizer in Toronto, in 2001 he released the mixtape Toronto Mix Sessions to a positive reception. His debut solo album Taste for the Low Life was released in June 2009. That year he became a member of the house duo Art Department. After touring internationally and releasing several albums, Art Department was nominated for Best Deep House DJ at the DJ Awards in 2014. In 2015 Glasgow announced he was leaving Art Department to focus on his solo career, though the duo is to perform several final shows such as Electric Daisy Carnival in New York and Tomorrowland in Brazil. Glasgow has an upcoming solo LP to be released in late 2015.

Early life and mixing

Kenny Glasgow was born and raised in the city of Toronto, in Ontario, Canada. By the early 1990s he was mixing as a DJ throughout Toronto, and he also began putting on illicit warehouse parties in Toronto. Glasgow became a resident DJ at acid house venues such as The Buzz, and later Industry Nightclub. In 2001 Ken Taylor of Allmusic gave Glasgow's official DJ mix Toronto Mix Sessions a score of 4/5 stars. Taylor opined that Glasgow "has a knack for sorting out electro, hip-hop, and techno," and that he "seamlessly knits together the frayed wires of '80s electro with hardwired '90s techno for a metallic masterpiece."

In 2009 Glasgow formed the DJ and producer duo Art Department, along with Jonny White of the Canadian label No. 19 Music. Glasgow took on the roles of music engineering, composition of music and lyrics, and vocals. The duo has released a number of singles, EPs, and albums, either through Crosstown Rebels, No. 19 Music, or Ultra Records. While continuing to collaborate with White in Art Department, in June 2009 Glasgow released his debut solo album Taste for the Low Life on No. 19 Music. He has also released a number of solo EPs and collaborated with Mario J on the projects Method Men and Unabomber, releasing remixes for artists such as Strictly Rhythm and Azuli. In 2011, Pitchfork Media gave his album with Art Department, titled The Drawing Board a score of 7.3.

Recent years

Glasgow continued touring with Art Department into 2012, and their album Natural Selection came out on Ultra Records in 2014. That year, Art Department was nominated for Best Deep House DJ at the DJ Awards. In April 2015, Glasgow announced he would be leaving Art Department to further pursue a solo career. At that point he had been producing and performing with Art Department or 6 years. The parting was amicable, and the duo is to perform several final shows: Electric Daisy Carnival in New York and Las Vegas, Movement Detroit, Groovefest, and Tomorrowland in Brazil. As of 2015 he has a forthcoming solo LP, with the name unannounced, to be released on No. 19 Music in late 2015. He has also announced he'll be releasing music on a new imprint he formed with Jonny White, called Social Experiment. The imprint is non-profit, and designed to raise money for wildlife conservation in South Africa.
