The municipality has a population of 8,383 (31 March 2016) and covers an area of 626.30 square kilometres (241.82 sq mi) of which 20.73 km2 (8.00 sq mi) is water. The population density is 13.41 inhabitants per square kilometre (34.7/sq mi).
