Ashworth began her television career presenting I Can Cook, a cookery programme for under-6s, on the BBC's children's channel CBeebies. Since 2011, she has also been one of the regular continuity presenters for CBeebies, appearing on an ongoing basis as a member of the CBeebies "house". She has also appeared on other CBeebies programmes, including Justin's House, as well as performing in various station promos. She has appeared in five of the CBeebies Christmas pantomimes, and in 2014 featured in the inaugural CBeebies Prom at the Royal Albert Hall.

In addition to her television roles, she has appeared in many live stage shows. In 2011, she toured the United Kingdom with her one-woman children's show Katy's Roadshow. She played 40 venues across six months. She has also performed at many festivals and events around the world, including Glastonbury, Lollibop, the South African Good Food and Wine Show, and three CBeebies Live tours around the UK, including the 2014 show "The BIG Band Easter Tour". For three consecutive years, Ashworth has played Peter Pan in end-of-year pantomimes around England, and in 2014 played the role of the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella at the Anvil Theatre in Basingstoke. Ashworth played the role of the Forest Fairy in Jack and the Beanstalk at the Theatre Royal in Bath in 2015.

Ashworth resigned from her presentation role at CBeebies in early 2016, and her final studio recording session was on Friday 1 April, but she returned in June 2017.

Personal life

On 18 May 2013, Ashworth announced on Twitter that she was pregnant. On 17 October 2013, she and her partner, Australian television director Ben Alcott, announced their first child Charlie had been born that month. They maintained a long-distance relationship as Ashworth lived in the UK and Alcott lived in Australia. In April 2016, Ashworth moved to Australia to live with Alcott, but after 3 days she discovered he was in relationships with four other woman, and returned to the UK with Charlie. Alcott then accused Ashworth of child abduction, claiming that the child's residence was in Australia; however, a family court judge cleared Ashworth, stating, "The mother did not wrongfully remove (the child) from Australia ... she did not abduct him."

Philanthropy

Ashworth is a patron of Brainwave, which supports children with brain illnesses. In February 2012, she climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in support of the charity. She is also an ambassador of Make-A-Wish Foundation, an organisation that grants wishes to children with life-threatening conditions; and she supports the Bliss Foundation, which promotes care for premature babies.
