Plot

The story revolves around Tanushree Khurana, fondly called Tanu (Kratika Sengar) and Rishi Singh Bedi (Sharad Malhotra) who are childhood friends. One day, Rishi falls by the side of a river, and Tanu saves him. Both of them are taken to Maa Kali temple, where a sadhu woman named Katyayani Bai prophesizes that Tanu and Rishi's kundli match very well, and Tanu will shield Rishi from every distress. But, Rano (Vibha Chibber), the mother of Rishi, dislikes Tanu and her family. Rano brainwashes her husband Raaj's mind to shift to America.

17 years go by, and Tanu is eagerly waiting for Rishi to return. Rishi and his family reach Patiala, where Tanu resides, and on the same day, Tanu's parents are tragically killed in a terrorist attack. Rishi' family reach Tanu's home and comes to know that his friend has died. Bani, the aunt of Tanu, takes Rishi and family to Mumbai, where Bani's own Daughters, Swati and Neha reside and tells that her daughter Neha is Tanu. Tanu and Ahana also reach Mumbai, but Bani says that she is her relative Tanvi. On the same night, Rishi and Tanu meet, and Rishi instantly fall for Tanu, without knowing that she is Tanu. Now, Rishi's marriage is fixed with Neha (The fake Tanu). On the engagement day, Rishi is shocked to know that he is engaged to Neha. This disheartens him, as he loves Tanvi (fake name of Tanu). Now, Tanvi's marriage is fixed with Pawan. Rishi dislikes Pawan, as he loves Tanvi. Soon, Rishi finds out that Pawan is already married to Saloni. He tries many ways to break the alliance, but in vain. But on the day of Tanvi and Pawan's marriage and Rishi and Neha's marriage, he drugs Tanvi and he rides her to a temple to marry her. When Tanvi regains consciousness, she is shocked to find herself with Rishi. Soon, Katyayani Bai arrives and tells Tanvi to tell the truth that she is Tanu. Tanu tells about her true identity, and Rishi is shocked, but moreover happy. The couple marry, but Pawan is behind them. After many problems, they find a way to go home. Neha, who is upset with her broken marriage, calls Sandy, her boyfriend and tells him that Rishi betrayed her and tried t rape her. Sandy becomes angry, and in a fit of rage, decides to kill Rishi. Sandy finds out were Tanu and Rishi were there and goes there. He points his gun towards Rishi, and shoots. In between, Tanu comes and takes a bullet on herself. She dies in the arms of Rishi. Neha is very happy about Tanu's death.

Soon, Bedi family come to know about the truth and go to the Place were the couple was there. They find Tanu lyong lifeless in the arms of Rishi, and are saddened. Rishi tries suicide, but Tanu's soul comes to Rishi and stops him. Tanu saves Rishi's life even after her death. On the same night of Tanu's death, Tanu is reborn to Sandy's brother as Tanuja.

After 20 years

Rishi is now a powerful business tycoon, and doesn't value love. He is cruel to his subordinates. Yuvraj is now married to Divya and has a son, Nakul. Manpreet is also married to Ahaana and has two children, Smiley and Chintu. Once Rishi gets a marriage proposal from Malika, but he turns down the proposal. Bani, now more wicked, decides to write a letter to Rano and she says that Bani and her husband are suffering from cancer, and are counting their last days. Neha and Sandy are in coma after an accident and there is nobody to look after Neha's daughters Vidhi and Nidhi, and Sandy's niece Tanuja. Rano receives the letter and deny them to stay at their place, but after sometime she allows them to stay in the storeroom.

Tanuja and Rishi meet several times, but he doesn't recognize her. One day Tanuja's face burns badly and is advised for plastic surgery, but Biji gives Tanu's photo. Tanuja gets Tanu's face, and everybody misunderstand her. She is eventually thrown out of her house. A girl names Malaika arrives at Rishi's home, who loves Rishi. One day, while Tanuja is walking on the road, Malaika's car hits her. Malaika brings Tanuja to Bedi house.

Tanuja and Rishi become close to each other, and spare sometime with each other. Tanuja, Rishi & Malaika went to see the hotel so Rishi can buy it. The terrorist attacked the hotel where few were killed. While saving Rishi, Tanuja gets shot. Rishi took her to the hospital where Tanuja survived from the bullet. Rano emotionally blackmails Rishi into marrying Malaika. He proposed to her and tells his decision to his family which left Tanuja heartbroken, the moment after she realizes that she loves Rishi.

Now, preparations start for Malaika-Rishi's wedding. On the day of marriage, Raaj sees Malaika hugging a man. Raaj is now sure that Malaika is in a relationship. After seeing this, he asks Tanuja to sit in the mandap in place of Malaika, which she initially refuse but later agrees. Tanuja gets married.

As everyone is shocked to see this, all curse Tanuja for her misdeed. She tries hard to explain it to the family members, but in vain. After many ordeals, the matter is now being forgotten.

Nextly, Tanuja and Rishi go for a honeymoon, share romantic time and Tanuja sprains her leg. After some days, Tanuja is said to be pregnant, which is overheard by Malaika and spills the beans in the family, except Raaj.Rishi started to hate Tanuja because he thought that Tanuja cheated on him and made relations with other man . Because Rishi and Tanuja haven't any physical relations in between after marriage. Tanuja faces many problems due to this, and even come to the verge of divorce. But luckily, Raaj comes back from America and the divorce is cancelled. Eventually, Smiley, Ahaana's daughter reveals that she is pregnant with her boyfriend's child and Tanuja shields her. Everybody feel guilty for cursing Tanuja, except Malaika. Rishi also begs pardon for whatever he said to Tanuja. On the same night, Tanuja spots Malaika with Shekhar and overhears about the duo's plan to destroy Rishi's life. Tanuja tells it to Rano and Rishi. Now Rano asks Rishi's hand in marriage with Malaika and he readily accepts, which breaks Tanuja. Rishi ignores her which hurts her more. Bani comes to the Bedi house but Rano insults her and Bani promises Rano that she will take her revenge against the Bedi family.Marriage takes place and Shekhar reveals the truth in front of family.Later it is revealed that marriage was fake and it was Rishi's plan .Malaika leaves Bedi house.Tanuja is leaving the house.Rishi stops Tanuja and tells her the truth.They consummate their marriage.Bani does a fake police complain.Tanuja comes to know about this fake complain and tries to get proof.Rishi gets Rano bailed.Bedi family assumes that Tanuja has done the complain.Rishi gets angry on Tanuja and asks Tanuja to leaves Bedi house.Tanuja is walking on road and meets with accident and Tanuja remembers that she is Tanu.Katyayni tells her that her Kundli has a problem. She can save Rishi whenever needed but if she tried to be his life partner, her love would be his end. Shattered, Tanuja leaves temple. Next day she meets a lady named Manorama who took her to her home. Manorama sells Tanuja to some goons. Goons took Tanuja with them. In the way, a drunk Rishi finds Tanuja being taken as hostage. He saves her but gets shot on his shoulder by goons and faints.Tanuja saves Rishi.

Rishi realizes that Tanuja is innocent and decides to spend his remaining life with her.He confesses his love for her but she remembers katyayini's word and asks Rishi to leave her because she is responsible for Rano's bad condition and they should not live together as she is unlucky for him.Rishi initially denies but when he see Tanuja being adamant to her decision he agrees.While going back they take lift from Dr Manav who informs rishi that how Tanuja tried hard to save Bedi's and Rishi take her home.He thinks that he will convince his mother but Rano is adamant on her decision and Rishi agrees to marry again and Rano gives Rishi 1 month time to Rishi for the marriage.Rishi tells he will remarry after Tanuja will remarry.Tanuja initially denies and runs away.Rishi takes her back to house.She agrees to remarry.Rishi tells her that he will find a boy for her.He organizes a party to find husband for Tanuja. Kasam Tere Pyaar Ki 17 February 2017 episode starts with Shekhar keeps waiting for the time to kidnap Tanuja. Malaika calls him up to know if he has kidnapped Tanuja yet. Shekhar yells at her and tells her not to bug him again and again. Malaika thinks that it was the worst decision of my life when she brought Tanuja to the Bedi house. Rishi left Tanuja with a friend of his, for him to get to know her but Tanuja keeps thinking about Rishi. He tries to hold her hand when she decides to leave. In her heart, she thinks that she would have taught him a lesson, if it weren’t for Rishi’s Kasam. She snatched away her hand and goes into the room. She cries her heart out and Shekhar uses this moment to kidnap her. He asks his men to go and use a cloth full of chloroform to make her unconscious. But just before they could make her sniff the chloroform, Ahaana comes and throws them out of Tanuja’s room. They both share a light moment and make fun of Arjun, who tried to hold Tanuja’s hand. Shekhar gets shocked to see that his men fail ed to kidnap her. Manpreet catches Shekhar off guard once again and he asks him the reason for staying so long. He reminds him the last time, when he threw him out of the Bedi house. Manpreet threatens him and asks him to leave the party. Shekhar’s men are still at work and are trying their best to find Tanuja alone. Rishi comes over to Tanuja and asks her if she liked anyone. Tanuja gets angry with Rishi because he left him with a stranger who misbehaved with her. Rishi tells her that its ok that he didn’t like Arjun. He says that he organised this party for her and there are many more bachelors she could meet but Tanuja refuses to meet anyone and says that maybe she is not destined to get married again. She excuses herself from the party and leaves. Shekhar’s men follow her to her room. Unfortunately Tanuja enters a room which is dark. Rishi keeps following her and falls prey to the kidnappers blow. The kidnappers unknowingly hit Rishi on the head instead of Tanuja. They put him in a sack and take him away to the car. Tanuja runs behind the car but falls unconscious.Manpreet, Rishi (Ssharad Malhotra) and everyone leave to track Rishi as Shekhar reaches the spot where the kidnappers have kept Tanuja (not knowing that it’s actually Rishi). He is shocked to discover that it’s Rishi and beats his men up. John tells Manpreet and Ahana that Tanuja (Kratika Sengar) is lying outside, unconscious. The family reaches there to wake her up and she panics when she wakes up. She tells them that some men kidnapped Rishi and cries. The family tries to extract more information out of her but in vain. Rano scolds her for not seeing the number of the car. Raaj asks her to shut up as she accuses Tanuja of doing everything deliberately.

Raaj scares Tanuja more by talking about how evil kidnappers are. Manpreet goes to call the police as Tanuja breaks down. Raaj then sees tracks of the car and they decide to follow it. Malaika decides to meet Shekhar herself but he comes home and tells her everything. Ahana asks Tanuja to recall something that can lead them to the kidnappers. She tells her everything that she saw. Ahana tries to console her but Rano calls her. Rano reminds her that this is Tanuja and Tanu. She says she is scared and asks Divya to take her inside.

Tanuja then remembers one of the waiters calling Shekhar and telling him that the kidnapping is done. Meanwhile, Shekhar is booking tickets to escape and Malaika asks him to think of something else. She tells him that they can make the most of Rishi’s kidnapping but Shekhar is too scared of him. Malaika tells him that they could tell Rishi that they also have Tanuja kidnapped to make the most of this blunder. Tanuja looks for more clues that could lead to the address of Rishi’s whereabouts. She finds Malaika’s cheque book and connects the dots.

Rishi wakes up and gets beaten up by Shekhar who asks him to transfer all the shares in his name. But Rishi fights all the goons and Shekhar. Just as Rishi is about to break Shekhar’s head with a bottle, Shekhar screams that they have kidnapped Tanuja. Shekhar then beats Rishi up along with his men. Raaj is talking to the commissioner as Rano stops Tanuja from talking to Raaj. Tanuja says that she thinks Malaika is behind everything and Rano tells her off. Tanuja then decides to follow her instincts and save Rishi.

Tanuja reaches Malaika's house and hears her saying about Rishi. Tanuja goes hides in the back of the car. When Malaika reaches Chember godown Tanuja comes out and hides .When Shekhar and his goons come out, she goes and tries to save Rishi but fails .She gets trapped by Shekhar but they escaped from scandal.Tanuja gets hurt, they find a temple and get shelter where Tanuja tries to play a prank for Rishi and goes unconscious.
