Karpal Singh Drive

Karpal Singh Drive is a seaside promanade at the suburb of Jelutong near George Town in Penang, Malaysia. It was known as Seaview among local, people, collectively known as the IJM Promenade.

The promenade was renamed after the late Karpal Singh, a politician and lawyer. This makes Karpal Singh, who was popularly called the Tiger of Jelutong, the first leader of the Democratic Action Party to be honoured with a street name on Penang Island.

The proposal of renaming the seaside promenade was announced by Penang Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng that later he gave the seaside plan to Karpal’s widow, Gurmit Kaur.

Attraction

The promenade at Karpal Singh Drive features a 10-meter walkway beautified with several modern-art sculptures.These sculptures are the work on Hitori Nakayama, a Japanese artist who has been residing in Penang.

    The first new year celebration for 2015 were held at Auto mall.

    Penang Flotilla

    The Penang Flotilla, overall champion in the 1-Malaysia International Tourism Night Floral Parade, was installed at Karpal Singh Drive for the view pleasure of the public

    Ubah Bird

    The Ubah di Air bird mascot was launched at the Karpal Singh Drive. It became the mascot for the Democratic Action Party during 2013 Malaysian general election.
