Perspectives on financial literacy professor karl moore
Karl Moore is an Associate Professor at McGill University, Montreal, Canada. He holds a joint appointment in the Department of Strategy and Organization at the Desautels Faculty of Management and the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at McGill's Faculty of Medicine, however, he is not a medical professional nor does he possess specialized medical training, he does leadership teaching and coaching, hence his appointment in medicine. He is also the Co-Director of the Advanced Leadership Program, a program he runs jointly with renowned management guru Henry Mintzberg. Prior to coming to McGill, Dr Moore was on the faculty of Templeton College at Oxford University for five years, where he remains an Associate Fellow. While at Oxford he also played for the University's ice hockey team in 1995 and 1996. Before joining academia, he worked 12 years in sales and marketing management positions in the high tech industry with IBM, Bull and Hitachi.

The winter 2005 issue of Business Strategy Review, published by the London Business School, identified Karl Moore among a group of world’s greatest business thinkers. Others on the list of about 20 include: Charles Handy, Phillip Kotler, Gary Hamel, Warren Bennis and Rosabeth Moss Kanter. A Globe and Mail article in 2011 listed him as one of the four top business professors in Canada, alongside, Henry Mintzberg, Roger Martin, and Richard Florida.
His work has been published in a number of top academic journals, including SMJ, JIBS, AMP, MIR, JABS, JPIM and others. His research as received over 2000 Google Scholar citations, putting him in the top half of full professors at the Desautels Faculty.
He conducts a weekly video column on leadership called "Talking Management", for the Globe and Mail, Canada's national newspaper. Moore has interviewed Nobel Prize Winner Mohammed Yunus, Economist Editor-in-Chief, John Micklethwait, Sir Richard Branson, Bombardier CEO Pierre Beaudoin, Rio Tinto CEO Tom Albanese, African businessman Mo Ibrahim and business professors like INSEAD's Yves Doz, Wharton's Michael Useem, Harvard University's Richard Hackman, and McGill's Henry Mintzberg. Some of these interviews are picked up for worldwide syndication by The New York Times Syndication Service. In April 2009, Karl Moore and historian David Lewis’ book, The Origins of Globalization was published by Routledge. It discusses "known-world" globalization in the Roman Empire. It was reviewed by Globe and Mail columnist Neil Reynolds in two columns. Macleans.ca, Canada news weekly published an interview with Karl about the book. An earlier book, Birth of the Multinational was received very positively by International Business reviewers however, received a more mixed review from the late Phoneian historian Hans Georg Niemeyer.
His next book is entitled: The PostModern Generation:: Working With Under 35s The Way They Want To Be Worked With and will be out in 2016. He gave a TEDx talk on the topic in 2010. His current research projects are on introverted leaders in the C-Suite and Shadowing Senior Women Leaders. His book after is, is Quiet Leaders: Introverts in the Executive Suite. In March 2011 he started a weekly column for Forbes.com, Rethinking Leadership, it can be seen at: blogs.forbes.com/karlmoore It has received + 1,000,000 views. His YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/profkjmoore) has + 300,000 views, it features his interviews for the Globe and Mail.
In May 2012 Karl was honoured by the McGill Alumni Associate with the 2012 Faculty Award for Excellence in Alumni Activities.
Starting in winter 2014 Karl does an hour long radio show on Montreal Bell Media station CJAD, with plans to go national in Fall 2016. It is a one-on-one interview with a CEO or other senior leader on leadership, organizational strategy and work life integration. In August 2017, he was nominated for one of Thinkers50's Distinguished Achievement Awards. Since 2001, Thinkers50 has regularly awarded global business thinkers in what has become known as 'the Oscars of management thinking'. The nomination on the Thinkers50 website mentioned that he currently researches the relationship between leadership and introversion/ambiversion/extroversion, is one of eight nominees in the Leadership Award category. Thinkers50 describes him as 'an expert in CEO and C-Suite leadership". The award winners will be announced at the 2017 Thinkers50 Gala in London, on 13 November.
