Kandi is a community development block that forms an administrative division in Kandi subdivision of Murshidabad district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Kandi police station serves this block. Headquarters of this block is at Kandi. It is located 30 km from Baharampur, the district headquarters.

Location

Kandi is located at 23°57′N 88°02′E

Kandi CD Block is bounded by Khargram CD Block in the north, Beldanga II CD Block in the east, Bharatpur I CD Block in the south and Burwan CD Block in the west.

Area

Kandi CD Block has an area of 238.54 km2.

Physical features

The Bhagirathi divides the district into two parts namely Bagri on the east and Rahr on the west. The Padma separates the district from Malda district, and Chapai Nawabganj and Rajshahi districts of Bangladesh.

As per 2011 Census of India Kandi CD Block had a total population of 220,145, all of which were rural. There were 112,789 (51%) males and 107,356 (49%) females. The population below six years was 29,223. Scheduled Castes numbered 35,859 and Scheduled Tribes numbered 3,390.

As per 2001 census, Kandi block has a total population of 192,952, out of which 99,636 were males and 93,316 were females. Kandi block registered a population growth of 20.75 per cent during the 1991-2001 decade. Decadal growth for the district was 23.70 per cent.Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84 per cent.
