Geography

Kahoku is located approximately in the center of Ishikawa Prefecture and falls 20 km north of the capital city, Kanazawa. It takes thirty minutes from Kanazawa by train. Kahoku lies between the Sea of Japan to the west, the town of Hōdatsushimizu to the north, the town of Tsubata to the east and the town of Uchinada to the south. Geographically from the East to West, Kahoku is composed of a mountainous region, a hilly region, a terrace region, a lowland region and then a coastal region. In the northern part of town the Ōmi River flows into the Sea of Japan and in the southern area, the Unoke River flows into the Kahoku Lagoon which marks the southernmost part of Kahoku.

Population

According to the last census taken in the year 2000, there were a total of 34,670 people and 9,820 households in the three towns that form the city of Kahoku, with an average of 3.53 people per household. When compared to the population trends of Japan, the city of Kahoku appears to be matching the national trend of a larger Aging population, while also keeping with the Japanese trend of a decreasing birth rate.
