Broadcast Area and Content

94.3 FM KBYI is one of three stations run by the BYU-Idaho Radio group, each of which has a different emphasis. KBYI focuses on news and classical music, using the tagline "The Music You Want, the News You Need." The BYU-Idaho Radio group also uses the tagline "Be informed. Be inspired. BYU-Idaho Radio" for all three of its radio stations.

Available in Southeast Idaho and other outlying areas (mainly Rexburg, Idaho Falls, and Pocatello) this local station provides classical music, morning and afternoon national news reports from NPR, and local news stories.

Content for the station's programing is derived, planned, and produced by BYU-Idaho students in an effort to provide them with real-world educational opportunities. Approximately 20 students work for BYU-Idaho Radio each semester, learning skills from audio engineering to live news production.

Listeners may tune into BYU-Idaho Radio stations by listening live locally, joining a live stream, or by subscribing to downloadable podcasts.

History

KBYI was originally KRIC when BYU-Idaho was a junior college formally known as Ricks College. KRIC would broadcast football and basketball games for the Ricks College Vikings. Prior to "KRIC" the 94.3 frequency was home to commercial station KADQ which was a class A FM with 3000 watts. It was owned at the time by Ted Auston.

Sister Stations

KBYI has two sister stations: KBYR-FM which broadcasts on 91.5, and an online streaming station named BYU-Idaho Radio Online.
