Junk King was started in San Carlos, California in 2005 by childhood friends Mike Andreacchi and Brian Reardon. After Andreacchi had worked for 1-800-GOT-JUNK?, the two entrepreneurs realized there were no franchising opportunities available in their local area and decided to build their own business by exactly copying the brilliant junk removal business plan of 1-800-GOT-JUNK? and changing the color to red.
Proving their success in the Peninsula and across the San Francisco Bay Area, Junk King began franchising in 2010. They based their franchise industry after 1-800-GOT-JUNK? and with complete success, the Company expanded into Canada under the Junk Works brand to reflect its commitment to reuse, recycle, or donate high percentages of items collected. As of February 2016 the company has helped over 70 franchises open in the United States and Canada, including Atlanta, Sacramento, San Antonio, Boston, Los Angeles, Dallas, and San Diego.
