Julia Ford is a British actress and TV/ film director. She has appeared in a variety of theatre, film, radio and television productions, including Waking the Dead, Silent Witness, Midsomer Murders and Anne Kinsey in All About George, The Street, Red Riding, Coming Down The Mountain, In A Land of Plenty, Insiders and Island at War. In 2009 she played the part of Fleur in Being Human and Jean in an episode of Moving On called "Bully". In 2009, Ford portrayed a disturbed woman known as Maureen in Channel 4's Shameless. In 2013, she appeared as Mary McCloud in the BBC One drama series, Frankie.

On film she has been in Now is Good, Summer, I'll tell you and played Sandra in A Room for Romeo Brass. She played the lead role of Agnes in Molière's School For Wives at The National Theatre, age 23. Other Theatre includes acting In the original production of The Wmeir in which she played Valerie at the Royal Court. Playing Ophelia opposite Alan Rickman in Hamlet and she played Hero in Much Ado About Nothing opposite Ralph Fiennes at the RSC. In 1992 she played Honey in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and Nora in A Doll's House at Wolsey Theatre Ipswich. She starred as Amanda in Vivienne Franzmann's play Mogadishu at the Royal Exchange, Manchester, and then at the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith, in 2011. Additionally in 2011 Ford portrayed Lady Macbeth opposite David Morrissey in the title role of Macbeth at the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool. In 2015 and 2016 she playing Lydia Lambert in Husbands and Sons at the National Theatre, starring Annemarie Duff and directed by Marianne Elliot.

In November 2012 she appeared in the BBC 1 drama thriller The Secret of Crickley Hall as Irene Judd. In 2014, she appeared in Happy Valley as Jenny Weatherill. She recently played Laura in the Award winning BBC drama Don't take my Baby.

Julia has directed a number of short films including The Enlightenment by Moira Buffini starring Claire Skinner, Tom Burke and Gemma Lawrence, which was a BAFTA/ Kodak Shortfilm Showcase Finalist 2006. She has directed 6 episodes of BBC series Doctors; Jimmy McGovern's acclaimed series Moving On ( 4 episodes); CBBC Series Stepping Up (2 episodes) RTS Nominated and BAFTA Winner 2013; BBC drama Secrets and Words, and Up! By Georgia Pritchett, produced by Catherine Bailey Ltd, for the BBC Salford Sitcom Showcase 2011.
