Joseph Michael Reagle Jr. is an American academic and author focused on technology and Wikipedia. He is Assistant Professor of Communication Studies at Northeastern University, and a faculty associate at Harvard University's Berkman Center for Internet and Society.

Education

Reagle was educated at New York University where he was awarded a PhD in 2008, for research on Wikipedia editing supervised by Helen Nissenbaum.

Career and research

Reagle was a longtime member of the World Wide Web Consortium. In 2011 he published a journal article with Lauren Rhue that examined gender bias in Wikipedia, using gendered pronouns to detect articles about women and comparing and contrasting their findings against female coverage in other encyclopedias.
