John Cabot University is an American liberal arts university based in Rome, Italy, in the Trastevere neighborhood. It is named after the fifteenth-century Italian explorer Giovanni Caboto, who crossing the Atlantic Ocean connected Europe with the New World. John Cabot University was established in 1972 as a split-off from the American University of Rome, and until about 1991 it was known as John Cabot International College.:461 About 66% of students are female.

Degrees

The university offers associate and BA degrees in the humanities, political sciences, history, economics, philosophy, and business administration.:55 It also offers single courses in a variety of subjects including Italian cinema and language.:55 A Master's in Art History was activated in 2017. Classes are taught in English.

Accreditation

The university is accredited in the United States by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. It was formerly academically associated with Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio.
