On December 4, 2010 Hanks beat Villi Bloomfield by KO in round 4, on the undercard of Donaire-Sidorenko. On April 22, 2011 Hanks beat Terrell Nelson via a RTD by 4 round. His next fight was scheduled to be on July 23, 2011 at Hunts Point Produce Market, Bronx. He then won against Alfredo Escalera Jr. by a unanimous decision on July 23, 2011. By winning the fight, he also won the vacant IBA Americas heavyweight title. His next fight was on December 3, 2011. The opponent was Franklin Edmondson. The venue for the fight was Greensboro Coliseum Complex, Greensboro, North Carolina. Joe Hanks won the fight by a second-round TKO. He is now scheduled to fight against the Cuban Rafael Pedro on February 4, 2012, at the Times Union Center, Albany, New York. Hanks won the fight by a second-round TKO. Pedro went down in the second round with an apparent dislocated shoulder. He then fought veteran Marcus Rhode on April 27, 2012. He scored a first-round TKO victory. Rhode was down three times in the fight. On December 6, 2012, Hanks defeated Maurenzo Smith in Costa Mesa, California, by a 6-round unanimous decision.
