Joe Fishback (born November 29, 1967 in Knoxville, Tennessee) to Shirley Battle and Joe Fishback, Sr. He is a former professional football player who played cornerback for five seasons for the Atlanta Falcons, New York Jets, and Dallas Cowboys. Fishback won Super Bowl XXVIII with the Cowboys against the Buffalo Bills.

Early years

Earned All-American honors at Carson-Newman University where he was a 3-year starter. He was a runner up in the NAIA's Player of the Year voting and was named Conference "Defensive Player of the Year" in 1989. Member of NAIA Division I Champions 1986, 1988-89. Registered 293 tackles and 11 interceptions (returned 3 for touchdowns) during his career.

In 2013, he was inducted into the Carson-Newman Athletic Hall of Fame.

New York Giants

Fishback signed as an undrafted free agent with the New York Giants after the 1990 NFL Draft. He injured his back in the third preseason game and spent the season on the injured reserve list with a transverse process.

Atlanta Falcons (First stint)

On September 4, 1991, the Atlanta Falcons signed him to their practice squad. He played in 14 games as a reserve defensive back (5 tackles) while excelling on special teams, while leading the team with 24 tackles, he partially blocked punt, and returned a fumble for a touchdown. He was 3-29-9.7-19-0 as a kick off returner and was named the Falcons "Special Teams Player of the Week" 6 times. He was named a Pro Bowl alternate at the end of the season.

New York Jets

On March 13, 1992, he signed in Plan B free agency with the New York Jets. He was waived on October 20, 1992.

Atlanta Falcons (second stint)

On April 13, 1993, he signed as a free agent with the Atlanta Falcons. On August 23 he was placed on the injured reserve list.

Dallas Cowboys

On October 13, 1993, he signed as a free agent with the Dallas Cowboys. He played mainly on special teams and registered 12 special teams tackles (fifth on the team) in 1993. He was a part of the Super Bowl XXVIII Championship team.

Personal life

He is married to Irish Howard, who is the Publisher of I Weekly Magazine.
