Lessin was born Jessica Elizabeth Vascellaro. Her father, Jerome Vascallero, is the COO of private equity firm TPG Capital and is a trustee at Brown University.

She graduated from Harvard College in 2005, Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in history. While at Harvard, she wrote for The Harvard Crimson and served as an executive editor.

Career

At the Wall Street Journal, she wrote more than a thousand articles and news stories while covering Apple, Google, Yahoo, Facebook, Twitter and other global technology and telecom companies. She was part of the team that was a 2012 Pulitzer Finalist for a series on digital privacy. The team won a public service award from the Society of Professional Journalists for that same series. Jessica has appeared on CNBC, NPR, CNN and PBS's "The Charlie Rose Show" and is a regular speaker at international conferences. Lessin was listed in 2014 as an Influential Woman in Technology by Business Insider.

Relationship with Mark Zuckerberg

Lessin's husband Sam is a close friend of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, from the time they spent together as students at Harvard University. Sam Lessin was brought into Facebook when his company Drop.io was acquired in 2010. Sam Lessin left Facebook on August 29, 2014.
