The most prominent personality of the city is Anwar Jalalpuri, a Urdu poet who translated the Geeta in the Urdu language entitled "Urdu Shairi Mein Geeta". He has also worked in the movie, Dedh Ishqiya.

Famous Hindi writer Adya Prasad Chaturvedi practiced medicine here and spent his last days here.
