Intellivision lives for the nintendo ds

Intellivision Lives! is a compilation of Intellivision video games using original game code and software emulation. Games were originally produced or released on cartridge by Mattel Electronics or INTV Corporation between 1978 and 1990. The first edition was released in 1999 for Windows and Macintosh computers (2001 update supports Windows XP and DirectX) and a sequel named Intellivision Rocks was released in 2002. Intellivision Rocks included third-party games originally published by Activision and Imagic as well as Mattel Electronics Intellivoice and ECS games. Versions of Intellivision Lives! were then released for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Nintendo GameCube. A Nintendo DS version was released on October 27, 2010.

Some games could not be included due to licensing (eg. Tron, BurgerTime, Dig Dug, Commando). Others such as ADVANCED DUNGEONS & DRAGONS Cartridge simply used different titles to avoid trademarked names. Also included were games never before released on cartridge.

The games are accessed from a 3D "overworld" set in a circa 1980s pizza parlor, although this is an inaccurate representation of the games in question which are designed for a home console. On some platforms, some games require two controllers, even to play single player. In addition to the games there are several unlockables such as the classic Intellivision commercials as well as development history, box art, hidden features, programmer biographies, and video interviews.

A version of Intellivision Lives! was released on October 27, 2010 for the Nintendo DS. The DS Intellivision Lives! includes over 60 different games including, Astrosmash, B-17 Bomber, Shark! Shark!, Motocross, Space Cadet, and Thin Ice. It also features games not released at the time of the original launch as well as head-to-head local wireless gameplay. The Nintendo DS's touch screen emulates the Intellivision's 12-button keypad: each game features a custom touch-screen layout mimicking that of the button overlay supplied with the original Intellivision cartridge. The DS version of Intellivision Lives! is published by Virtual Play Games and only 10,000 copies were ever printed.

Reception

IGN said that Intellivision Lives! is "still blocky after all these years, sure...but these games really need the controller." GameSpot editors said that although the controller emulation is a little hard to handle, the collection does a fine job in delivering classic Intellivision games.
