Plot
Gianni is a poor, young newspaper salesman in Milan. His friend, Count Max Caraldo, is a wealthy aristocrat in the city, with an uncanny physical resemblance to Gianni. Count Max often invites Gianni to his palace, both because he takes interest in the affairs of the common people, and also because Gianni amuses him with his jokes. The Count one day leaves Milan on a cruise, leaving Gianni in control of his palace for the duration. Gianni takes advantage of his newfound wealth, including accidentally seducing Count Max's lover, Lauretta, who believes that Gianni is actually The Count. A series of humorous misunderstandings follow.
