Ibrahim Tahir (died 2009) was former Nigerian Minister of Internal Affairs and ex-chairman of the Nigerian External Telecommunications Limited. He was popularly called Talban because he held the chieftaincy title of Talban Bauchi . He was a member of NPN and was considered an adviser in the formulation of the party's programmes.

Life

Tahir was born in Tafawa Balewa Local Government. He was educated at Kobi Primary School and from 1954 to 1958 he attended Barewa College, Zaria. He later attended King's College, Cambridge on a regional government scholarship hwere he earned a bachelor's and doctorate degree in social anthropology. While staying in England, he worked with BBC's Hausa service program. In 1967, he took up appointment as a sociology lecturer at Ahmadu Bello University. At ABU he started Gamji club, a social club that also hosted activities in honour of Ahmadu Bello who was popularly called Gamji. At the university, he was considered a conservative as opposed to Bala Usman and Patrick Wilmot. Towards the end of Obasanjo's first administration, Tahir headed a committee on the revitalization of the railway, the committee proposed introducing standard rail gauges to replace the narrow gauges. However, the report of the committee was rejected by the succeeding administration. Tahir was a founding member of National Party of Nigeria and briefly acted as the party's secretary during its formative years in 1978. In the second republic, he was appointed chairperson of NNDC and then Nigeria External Communications.

Tahir wrote a novel, The Last Imam in 1984.
