Specialist High Skills Major

Mel Everett, the head of the technology department, began the SHSM transportation program at Humberview in 2012. The purpose of the program is to provide students with an opportunity to gain skills that can lead to a career in the automotive industry. The program has begun putting on an annual car show for students to check out different vehicles and meet professionals in the industry.

2015 graduated the first student from the HEALS Healthly Eating, Active Lifestyle and Sports SHSM under the leadership of Kent Campbell and the department he heads. The program offers opportunities for students to delve into more than just sports future by looking at all aspects of the health and sports care industries.

Grade 11 students at Humberview now have a third SHSM choice in the area of Conservation and Sustainabilty. Andrew Cresswell has put together a team of Bolton area public and private partners to work with students in this growing area. "Humberview’s Specialist High Skills Major program in Conservation and Sustainability gives all students, vocational to university-bound, the opportunity to develop the attitudes, skills and knowledge to transition as an informed and active citizen to post-secondary education or employment in the modern “green” economy. The program mainly consists of a bundle of courses in Geography and Science, but also includes courses that will allow for specialization within the program such as History, Business, Law, Foods, Manufacturing, Computer Science, Media and Education."
