Profiles

Hillcrest High School is an Ottawa-Carleton District School Board high school in the Elmvale Acres neighbourhood in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, in School Zone 6.

The school was opened in 1961. In 2011, it enrolled 800 students. Its sports teams are nicknamed "The Hawks".

Hillcrest High School is a very ethnically diverse school, with many different kinds of people living in and around the surrounding community, including Blacks, Arabs, South Asians, Somalis, and Whites. Hillcrest enrolls students from over 100 countries and offers a full-immersion French program.

Hillcrest has a long history of success in sports. The school has won numerous boys' rugby, basketball and hockey championships. The senior boys' rugby team was considered the top in the city, years 2006-08. The junior basketball team was considered the top in the city in the year 2008-09. Hillcrest's varsity girls' hockey team claimed the tier 2 championship, two years in a row 08-09 and 09-10. Also notable is their track team's long history of success at the city and provincial levels. Many players on the Ottawa 67's attend Hillcrest during the season as well.

Hillcrest has a university Advanced Placement program, which is a method of extending classroom learning through activities and travel; a co-curricular program; and a computer technology program in information management. The school is also involved in the community; students raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society every year.
