Hawraa Zakery is a social justice and civil advocate. She is most known for her minority rights research and advocacy for Shia Muslims.

In 2012 Hawraa joined newly established human rights NGO, Shia Rights Watch, in Washington DC to master her profession in Shia rights research. As part of her role in SRW, more than ten annual reports specifically on rights of Shia Muslims in different countries such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Syria, etc. was published. Hawraa is also a freelance writer and usually her articles are in response to news and international conflicts. Her articles are published in number on websites such as Communities Digital website, Academia.edu, Shia Rights Watch, deliberation.info and http://muckrack.com. Previous experiences

Teaching and Teacher Training- Hawraa Zakery has more than 15 year experience in teaching as of 2015. She was employed by Fairfax County School of Virginia, taught at language and Islamic weekend schools in the metropolitan area, designed curriculum and activity based worksheets, and led Positive Behavior Intervention and Support along with teacher training program at Islamic schools. TV Show- Hawraa has also hosted Rowzaneh TV program on Channel 4 of USA Fairfax County public Channel from 2002 to 2004. Rowzaneh meant to bring minorities together and taught friendship skills to boost involvement of Muslim youth in the society.

Certificates

Zakery has received number of certificates for her friendship circles, teachings and research. She has Certificate of Best Teacher from Roshd Weekend School, Certificate of Leadership from Nova Community College of Virginia, Certificate of Friendship from Laurel Church of Maryland.

Education and degree

Zakery holds MEd of Social Justice Counseling and BA of Psychology from George Mason University. She also has a degree in Special Education and Associate of Liberal Art from Nova Community College. Hawraa has certificate of Child Abuse Awareness as part of her work as well.

Early life and family background

Hawraa was born to Dr. Muhammad Taqi Zakery and Batoul Rajab in Syria in 1984. Her father is a well-known Iraqi author, researcher, publisher, and family counselor who also officially served as a representative of Grand Ayatullah Muhammad ShiraziMohammad al-Husayni al-hirazi, Sadiq Shirazi, Ali Sistani, and al-Khoei in Iraq and USA. He also leads first non-violence Islamic NGO in USA along with leading Imam Shirazi Would Foundation, Hawzeh of Najaf, etc. Batoul Rajab is an Iranian teacher who devoted her life in teaching Islamic theories to women since 1990 in Iran, and USA. Being born to mixed culture family of Iraqi and Iranian and being born in Syria, raised and educated in USA enabled Hawraa to be familiar with many cultures as she lived in number of countries throughout her life.
