Early life and Education

Harvey Perlman was born in York, Nebraska January 17, 1942. His family remained in York, which is where Harvey grew up until he left to go to college. Harvey attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and received a Bachelors in Art History in 1963. After receiving an undergraduate degree Harvey went to the University of Nebraska Law School where he graduated at the top of his class and received a Juris Doctor in 1966. While in school Harvey was the editor in chief of the Nebraska Law Review as well a member of the Order of the Coif honor society. After graduating from law school Harvey became a Bigelow Teaching Fellow at the University of Chicago Law School. A year later Harvey was offered his first job at the University of Nebraska law school as a professor.

In 1967 Harvey became a member of the University of Nebraska Law faculty. Harvey focused on tort and intellectual property law. In 1974 Harvey left the University of Nebraska Law faculty after being offered a position on the University of Virginia Law School faculty. Harvey taught torts, regulation of the competitive process, and legislative drafting at the University of Virginia Law School He continued to teach at the University of Virginia Law School until 1983 when he came back to Nebraska to become the Dean of Nebraska Law College. While the Dean of the law school, Harvey was also the Interim Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs for the University of Nebraska. Harvey remained dean of the law college until 1998 when he stepped down. During this time Harvey was a visiting professor of law at Florida State University, University of Iowa, and University of Puget Sound. On July 16, 2000 Harvey became the Interim Chancellor of the University of Nebraska. On April 1, 2001 Harvey was named the Chancellor of the University of Nebraska. He is the 19th Chancellor of the University. According to most newspapers in Nebraska Harvey's most notable moment as dean was hiring Tom OsborneHas the Huskers coach in 1973.arvey will be stepping down in 2016 and returning to be the dean of the University of Nebraska Law School.

    Harvey Perlman Chancellor cites College of Engineering in State of University

    Harvey is married to Susan Perlman and they have two daughter. Their daughters, Anne and Amie, both received undergraduate degrees from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Anne went on to get a Medicinae Doctor (MD) from the University of Nebraska Medical School and now practices medicine. Amie went on to the University of Nebraska Law School and received Juris Doctorate and now works as an assistant attorney general for the state of Nebraska. Both Anne and Amie are married and have children of their own.
