Plot

Harpreet "Happy" Kaur (Diana Penty) is supposed to marry Daman Singh Bagga (Jimmy Shergill), a small-time corporator, in Amritsar, India. But, on the eve of her wedding, she tries to elope with her boyfriend, Guddu (Ali Fazal), a musician. However, during her escape stunt, she inadvertently finds herself in a truck destined for Lahore, Pakistan, and ends up in the home of Bilal Ahmed (Abhay Deol). Happy informs Bilal, an upcoming politician, that she wants to call Guddu. Bilal refuses to help her. Meanwhile in Amritsar, Guddu is abducted by Bagga to make sure that Happy would have to ultimately return to him.

Happy creates a ruckus in Lahore and is caught by a police officer, Usman Afridi (Piyush Mishra), who informs Bilal. Bilal intends to deport her immediately. Happy fears that she would be handed over to her father, who would forcefully marry her off to Bagga. She threatens Bilal that she would ruin his family name by announcing to the media that she had been smuggled from India as a part of human trafficking racket. Bilal is then confronted by his fiancée Zoya (Momal Sheikh). Initially Zoya feels that Bilal is cheating on her with Happy, but then assumes for a while that Happy is telling the truth and co-operates with them. Zoya suggests that the only way to get rid of Happy is to get Guddu into Pakistan, have Happy and Guddu married and then deport them together. Until then, Happy is to stay at Bilal's residence. Bilal has a difficult time keeping this secret from his father and struggles to keep Happy reined in.

When Bilal's father travels to China for two weeks, Bilal makes a plan to go to India with Afridi. They pose as members of a Lahore-based music company who want Guddu to perform them. They meet Bagga and Guddu, but Bagga initially refuses to let Guddu go. Bagga relents when Bilal tells him that as Guddu is out in Lahore, he would peacefully be able to marry Happy. One night, as Guddu and Afridi have been drinking, one of Bagga's men overhears Afridi tell Guddu the reality of the situation. As Bilal and Afridi cross the border with Guddu, Bagga's man tells him that Happy is in Lahore and that the music show was a just a ploy to take Guddu to Lahore. As Guddu reaches Lahore, Bilal's father returns from China as his meetings were cancelled. Happy is then abducted by goons employed by Bagga. Bagga gets Happy's father along with him to Lahore, where Afridi has already made provisions to arrest him as soon as he steps down from the bus. Bagga is arrested along with a messenger from the goons who have abducted Happy.

Afridi leads a team with Bilal, Zoya & Guddu to the goons' hideout, where they find and free Happy. Meanwhile the goons free Bagga from prison. Meanwhile, Happy's father, who is searching her in Lahore, is mistaken by a police for an Indian spy who is planning to kill Bilal's father. Posters of Happy's father are distributed around Lahore, explaining that he is there to kill Bilal's father. Bilal feels that Happy's father is out to kill his father since he is helping Happy marry Guddu. In the ensuing chaos, Happy marries Guddu and escapes from Bagga back to India. In the end Bagga is shown to be seeking votes for himself in India in the name of uniting two lovers Happy and Guddu and bringing them back from Pakistan.
