Gulzarbagh-Ukhra is a Minority Mohalla/Sansad under Andal police station of Durgapur subdivision in Bardhaman district in the Indian state of West Bengal.

Geography

The Gulzarbagh-Ukhra of Asansol-Durgapur region is composed of undulating laterite soil. This area lies between the Damodar and the Ajay rivers which flow almost parallel to each other in the region. The average distance between the two rivers is around 30 km. For ages the area was heavily forested and infested with plunderers and marauders. The discovery of coal led to industrialisation of the area and most of the forests have been cleared.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, Gulzarbagh-Ukhra had a population of 5,000. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Gulzarbagh-Ukhra has an average literacy rate of 70%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 76%, and female literacy is 61%. In Gulzarbagh-Ukhra, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Economy

Gulzarbagh-Ukhra is in the heart of the Ukhra Town, coal mining zone. Maximum people of this Mohalla are Business class except some of Job engaged.

Transport

Gulzarbagh-Ukhra is 12 km from Andal Station, while 8 km from Andal More on the Andal-Sainthia Branch Line of Eastern Railway. and 35 km from Asansol.

The major transport is provided by mini buses which ply between 5am and 8 pm. Gulzarbagh-Ukhra is well connected by road to nearby cities, Durgapur and Asansol. Ukhra railway station is located on the Andal-Sainthia railway line. Earlier only diesel locomotives were used but after electrification of the railway route(2007–08), electric locomotives came into picture.

Education

Gulzarbagh-Ukhra has a Urdu Free Primary School, and an English Medium School in the name of Center point school is best school. There is also an Islamic Urdu Madrasa MADRASA ISLAHUL MUSLEMEEN. For Hindi education people of Gulzarbagh-Ukhra depends upon Ukhra Adarsh Hindi High School, and Shankarpur Hindi Jr. High School, while for English Assembly of God Church School, Mother Mission School, for Bangla education Ukhra Kunja Behari Institution, P.G Girls High school, Computer Training School Ukhra Youth Computer Training Centre ( Rathtala Road.

Politics

As per orders of the Delimitation Commission, Ukhra (Vidhan Sabha constituency) has ceased to be an assembly constituency from 2011. Andal community development block is part of Raniganj assembly constituency. Gulzarbagh-Ukhra is under Andal Police Station and lies under East Zone of newly formed ASANSOL DURGAPUR POLICE COMMISIONERATE.

Local Politics

SULTAN SALAUDDIN KHAN (Advocate) is elected Panchayat Member and Social Worker at Gulzarbagh-Ukhra. It lies under Ukhra Gram Panchayat is now under Trinamul Congress led board headed by its Pradhan Ashish Karmakar and Sushila Bauri as Up-Pradhan with a total 18 members of Trinamul Congress out of 22 total members of the Panchayat in 2013. Major other Political feagures are RAJU MUKHERJEE & Jayraj Ghatak including SULTAN SALAUDDIN KHAN (Ph- 9547778887) as elected Panchayat Member under Trinamul Congress banner and practicing Advocate.

Gulzarbagh-Ukhra has only one legal personality. SULTAN SALAUDDIN KHAN (Ph- 9547778887) is Practicing Advocate at Calcutta High Court as well as Asansol-Durgapur Court in Criminal and Civil Fields.
